UB Championship Series

Posted by uspokerblog on November 25, 2010 at 3:09 PM

So far in this blog we’ve gone over the reasons you might want to play on US friendly poker sites, the UB referral code, how to clear the bonus, and information about RAI$E, their VIP program. Today I intend to go over tournament poker at UB, specifically the UB Online Championship (UBOC) series. Earlier this year UB hosted their fourth UBOC, featuring 18 events over twelve days.

Those that could download free poker at the start of the year were lucky to have the chance to clear their deposit bonus during the events because the buy-ins were fairly large in order to contribute to a total prize pool of $4 million. If you were a beginner player, you didn’t have to worry because UB offered Mini-UBOC, a series that had the same events as the regular UBOC but had buy-ins less than $30.

Since UB is among the top Texas Holdem sites there were, of course, several Hold Em events, but UB made sure that UBOC ran different types of poker as well. Other poker options included HORSE, mixed games, and Pot Limit Omaha. Hold Em players got to choose from short-handed and full ring tournaments as well as heads-up and rebuy events. And as a bonus, the site also gave out a special watch to each event’s winner as a gift for being the tournament champion. Most online poker rooms give these bonus prizes to their winners to emulate the World Series of Poker bracelets.

The lowest buy-in in the series was $109 and the highest was $2,600 while the guarantees had a range of $30k to $1 million. Tournament poker professionals like Annie Duke and Brandon Cantu participated by hosting the events, similar to the Full Tilt Poker download and FTOPS. Some absolutely huge prizes were won, including $361k in the Deepstack No-Limit Hold Em 6-max event and $279k in the Championship Event.

Every UB series features more games and bigger prize pools, so it’s exciting to consider what the next UBOC might offer. I can’t argue that waiting for the next series announcement won’t be fun, but maybe it will give some people some time to download UB so that they can participate too. If you’re one of those that isn’t already using Ultimate Bet for Mac, go ahead and read my older posts for information on why it might be a good choice. Until next time, good luck at the tables!
